![]() ![]() According to the bookplate affixed to front pastedown, the book was donated to the Drake University Library by funds from Aldo's family. However there are claims that the true first printing has silver lettering on the green cloth boards while this copy has black on green cloth. Copyright page reads "Copyright 1949 by Oxford University Press, Inc." Oxford's policy at that time was to list later printings under the copyright statement, so this would appear to be a first printing. First edition with "1949" on both title page and copyright page. Front panel of jacket has light damp staining at the flap fold. Library stamp on rear panel and catalogue number stamp on spine heel. ![]() Edges of jacket have tears, creases, chipping and pieces missing. Tips of jacket are clipped, not including the price. Top edge of text block has light dust staining. A few pages have a diagonal crease at the top tip. Old bookstore stamp at lower edge of inside front board. Remains of date due slip glued inside rear board. Remains of old library brodart inside boards. ![]()
